The Dream
2 years ago I came up with an idea for a womens shirt that we thought was pretty revolutionary. The first task was to find the perfect fabric to make it out of.
We tried a myriad of synthetics (or plastics shirts as later later called them) Designing the fabric was like making a pizza, a topping for UV, a topping for antibacterial, topping for water repelency (the last chemical was banned for being a carceningenic and a forever chemical!)
I thought to myself “who on earth would like to have all of those chemicals all over their bodies! Forever chemicals were bad enough but the fabrics in and of itself may take hundreds of years to decompose, if they decompose at all!
Within that stream of thought it came to me to use my old friend Hemp! I never looked back since that moment!
The prototypes were made and went out to our field testers
They loved the shirt and then on to the photography and building the website, a labor of love for sure! We were lucky to get some funds to market Kukukchu before we launched on Kickstarter a crowd funding site that if successful we get the funds up front, make the shirts and deliver then deliver them months later when they are done. This is the perfect platform that keeps one from not having to sell out to the man (woman) so to speak.
Banned From Facebook
We produced our ads and videos, set up an ad account with FB and placed our ads! We had a total of 19 ads, I couldn’t stop watch the anylitics, and then it happened; one after another they were pulled down, the reason stated was that “FB does not support the selling of dangerous substances”.
Say What!!!
Ever since the 2018 Farm Bill, all parts of the plant are legal, infact I have been importing hemp products ever since I hade up hemp footwear for the Grateful Dead. Then Instagram went dark, same problem.
Have you ever had a conversation with an algorithim? After days and more hours than I care to count, I had no choice than to quit those platforms and find another.
The newer upstart TikTok might just be the ticket!
I was given my own person guide. She loved the product and our videos and she even want to buy a shirt! She was well aware of our past programs and want us to stear away from any hemp references. Our first video was cut and funny but I did say the “H” word but we forgot to cut that out; after on 20 minutes it was pulled down, But we had well over 10,000 views with 500 + click throughs at a cost of $18 dollars.
After that, they were suspicious and the ads that had not reference still got flagged because our landing page was all about Hemp. As I was told by my guide; everyone from the top executives down to the marketing staff are well aware of Kukukchu!
She told me that we had cracked the ceiling and that in the future it won’t take much to shatter it, not that that helps me in the quest of launching my shirt and apron!
